Initiated in 2022, the BC Embodied Carbon Awards are a first of its kind in North America. Designed to inspire and inform the possibilities available when embodied carbon is placed at the centre of a project or company's values.

Welcome!
We are excited to announce that project submissions are now open for the upcoming BC Embodied Carbon Awards! There are six separate award categories for 2024 detailed below.
The event will take place on April 18, 2024. Tickets for the event are not yet available. They will be open for purchase once the location is confirmed.

There are six separate award categories for 2024 detailed below. The event will take place on April 18, 2024 at Ventura Room, Cambie St. in Vancouver BC.

The 2024 Award Categories
The 2024 awards will celebrate the achievements of BC projects who have endeavoured to minimize their material carbon footprint in the following categories:
1. Organizational Commitment to Change
This award category is for organizations that have shown exemplary commitment to change in their pursuit to reduce the embodied carbon of the built environment. The applicant must be based in BC (or have an office in BC) with demonstrated impact in BC.
Lead Judge: Veronica Ochoa, RJC Engineers
2. Public Sector Leadership
This award category is for BC-based local governments, regional districts, public sector organizations or not-for-profits that have shown exemplary leadership in their pursuit to reduce the embodied carbon in the built environment.
Lead Judge: Natalie Douglas, ZEBx
3. Strengthening the Practice
This award category is for an individual from the building sector who has demonstrated exemplary leadership in reducing embodied carbon in the built environment. This is a nomination-based award, and the nominee must be based in BC and have had a demonstrated impact in BC.
Lead Judge: Cris Nitz, E3 Eco Group
4. Large Buildings
This award category is for large new developments or a substantial renovation in a large building. The building(s) must be considered a Part 3 building by the municipality or permitting authority. The project must demonstrate excellence in low embodied carbon design and construction and must be located in BC.
Lead Judge: Ivan Lee, Morrison Hershfield
5. Small Buildings
This award category is for small new developments or a substantial renovation on a small building such as a single-family home or laneway home. The building(s) must be considered a Part 9 building by the municipality or permitting authority. The project must demonstrate excellence in low embodied carbon design and construction and must be in BC.

6. Commitment to Circularity
This category is for exceptional initiatives and projects that embrace and tangibly advance circularity or circular concepts within the BC building sector. The applicant must be based in BC (or have an office in BC) with demonstrated impact in BC.
